Auction Data for May 2010

Essential Auction News

David Sandeman, Managing Director Welcome to the June Newsletter. The figures show that the average sale rate rose from 60% in April to almost 67 % for May. In addition, the comparison figures with previous periods make encouraging reading as well, (see below). Hopefully with the election behind us the market will settle down and we will see an increasing level of business being transacted in the auction rooms.

We are now providing the “Auction Passport” online legal document service for over 60 auction houses who between them offer 40% of all lots coming to market. The service is proving to be very popular with over 1,700 legal packs being downloaded every day. A significant saving in trees and postage! As always if you have any comments or questions do please contact me.

Kind regards

David Sandeman

National Auction Analysis

Overall, May 2010 saw an increase of almost 20% in the number of lots being offered at auction when compared with May 2009. In addition the amount raised increased by 7.5% to £341,711,587. A similar trend was seen in the quarterly comparisons. Year on year the number of lots offered fell 11% but this trend seems to be reversing and as the recent increases in the number of lots works through the year, we should see the yearly totals start to increase again.

The residential lots fared particularly well with 2,102 lots being offered in May 2010 (up 23%) and raising £212,568,849 (up 29.3%). The commercial lots increased by 10.9% though the amount raised slipped 15% to £129,142,750. As with the overall figures the quarterly numbers for both residential and commercial show significant growth.
