Essential Auction News

David Sandeman, Managing Director Welcome to the August newsletter which looks back at July's auction results and the rolling quarterly and yearly periods. The overall signs are positive, as has been the case throughout the first half of 2011 with the majority of metrics seeing percentage increases when compared with preceding periods (see below for a more detailed analysis).

I have reflected on how the auction market has fared in the first half of the year and how it measures up against previous years. You can view the analysis for the overall market and the analysis for the residential market.

For one of the busiest months in the auction calendar it is pleasing to see a strong set of results for both the residential and commercial sectors, and I hope this renewed market confidence continues through the remainder of the year.

National Auction Analysis

Within the three sectors monitored below we compare a total of 36 separate metrics. It is encouraging to see that only 5 of these show a percentage decrease, and in all of these cases the decrease is marginal. The overall 'Percent Sold' in July 2011 was 70% - an increase of over 6% from July 2010 (65.7%), and is reflected in the residential and commercial figures with positive rises seen in both sectors.

The volume of 'Lots Sold' in July was up by over 9% to 2,813 when compared with July 2010 and the quarterly figures fared even better with 17% growth in 'Lots Sold'. The 'Total Raised' also increased significantly, with the monthly and quarterly totals rising by 8.9% and 12.3% respectively. The big gains came in the residential sector, with increases visible in every single metric, and these are certainly encouraging and promising signs to enter the summer break with.
