Essential Auction News

Welcome to the December newsletter that looks back at auction activity in November and preceding periods. The final newsletter of 2019 paints a familiar picture, with lots offered and lots sold down 23% and 25% respectively whilst the amount raised totalled £116.5M - down 28% on November 2018 (£162.7M).

The national analysis shows 31 out of 36 measurable metrics with a red downward arrow; many recording double-digit falls on their respective results last year. There is no doubt that the entire property industry has been adversely affected by Brexit over the past 12-18 months, so one hopes that the outcome of last week's election will bring an end to the uncertainty and reinvigorate the market in 2020 and beyond.

May I take this opportunity of wishing you all a peaceful and restful holiday and look forward to your continued support next year. As always I appreciate any feedback or suggestions you might have on our services and newsletters.

Please note the newsletter can also be viewed online.

National Auction Analysis

The number of residential lots offered fell by 23% in November, from 1,476 lots to 1,139 lots. Residential lots sold fell by almost 25%, whilst the total raised from residential sales totalled £103.4M - down almost 30% on last year.

In the commercial sector, lots offered and lots sold both dropped last month, by 28% and 30% respectively, whilst the amount raised decreased by 16% to £13M. None of the major commercial auctioneers held an auction in November, so these figures are largely accountable to fluctuations in the number of commercial instructions given to regional auctioneers.
