Essential Auction News

Welcome to the February newsletter that looks back at auction activity in January and preceding periods. As always January was a very quiet month, with only 456 lots offered between 20 auctions - a 6% increase on last year. 351 lots sold, with a total value of £33.5M, up 11% and 26.5% respectively on last year.

Whilst it's pleasing to finally see some green 'up' arrows in the tables below, a quick glance across to the rolling quarterly and yearly figures remind us of the ongoing challenges facing the market.

As ever I would welcome any comments or feedback you may have regarding the newsletter or indeed the wider market in general.

Please note the newsletter can also be viewed online.

National Auction Analysis

440 of the 456 lots offered last month were residential, raising £32.4M from 338 sales. Whilst these numbers are up on last year, one cannot make any accurate conclusions given the small sample set available. The results of c. 3,500 lots being offered in February will provide a better reflection of the market, which I will report on in March's newsletter.
