Essential Auction News
Welcome to the January newsletter that looks back auction activity last December, the previous quarter, and the previous 12 months, and compares it with the same periods ending 12 months ago. December 2022 was a slow month for auctions with the Commercial sector seeing the biggest declines, and within that sector only 3 of the 12 metrics we report on were in positive territory. Overall, whilst lots offered in December was up 15%, (due to a 22.8% increase in residential lots offered) the percent sold fell by 13%, and amount raised by 18% to £446M.
The ‘year on year’ figures fared better, with 9 out of the 12 metrics being positive and the amount raised in 2022 being £52M higher than in 2021. In the regions, the figures seen nationally for the past quarter, and discussed above, are reflected in the 13 regions to a greater or lesser extent with Yorkshire, West Midlands, & Northern Ireland experiencing double digit growth in amount raised. Most other regions saw falls, some in double digits.
As always I welcome any views and comments you might have about the newsletter or wider market in general.
Please note the newsletter can also be viewed online. Kind regards David Sandeman davids@eigroup.co.uk P.S. Here at the Essential Information Group we maintain a database of virtually every property coming up for sale at auction as well as almost 900,000 lots that have been to auction in the past. It is fully searchable and allows you to identify properties coming up for sale that you might be interested in, and to see what similar properties have sold for in the past.
