Essential Auction News
National auction activity improved in November, with a clear year on year uplift in both volumes and values. Lots sold increased by 17.8% compared with last year, while total funds raised rose by 16.3%. Residential auctions continued to underpin the market, recording double digit growth in receipts, while commercial results were softer on the month, reflecting lower achieved values rather than a material shift in demand.
Regional performance was mixed but broadly positive. Growth in funds raised was evident across much of southern England and the Midlands, supported by increased supply and steady buyer engagement. Scotland also recorded a notable improvement, with stronger clearance levels driving higher turnover. In contrast, weaker conditions persisted in the North-East and Northern Ireland, where reduced volumes and softer success rates continued to weigh on overall performance. Elsewhere, results were more stable, with modest movements either side of last year’s levels.
With the final auctions of 2025 now underway, attention will turn to whether current levels of demand can be sustained through to year end, particularly as larger catalogues continue to come to market. Early indications suggest buyer appetite remains firm, supporting the expectation that overall results will finish ahead of last year.
Please note the newsletter can also be viewed online. Kind regards David Sandeman davids@eigroup.co.uk P.S.
