Essential Auction News
National auction activity picked up in September following the quieter summer period, with 4,903 lots offered across the UK, up 5.7% year-on-year. However, sales volumes fell by 2.5%, with the national success rate easing to 65.9%. Total raised was also lower, down 12.8% to £593.7 million. Residential entries increased by 8.1%, although sales remained slightly below last year, while the commercial sector saw a sharper decline in both sales and total raised.
Regionally, London continued to perform strongly over the rolling July to September period, with lots offered up 10.6% and sold up 15.5%. Scotland also recorded a substantial increase in sales, while the South-West and Wales remained ahead of last year. In contrast, the North-East and both the North-West and South-East Home Counties recorded softer results, with sales volumes and total raised falling year-on-year.
Overall, the auction market continues to see a healthy flow of stock, although the increase in supply is placing some pressure on success rates. While recent results have been softer, activity over the past 12 months remains ahead of last year, providing a positive backdrop as the market moves into the traditionally busier final quarter.
Please note the newsletter can also be viewed online. Kind regards David Sandeman davids@eigroup.co.uk P.S.
